Leonor is 33 years old and was born and still resides in the small village of Pajiza. She is unmarried and has no children. She has passed on the skill of carving Tagua to her sister Elsy and the two of them work side by side and the income they generate helps to support other family members. When asked what she enjoys most about carving is that it has allowed her to become independent and help her family.

Tagua is the nut of a family of palm trees found in certain regions of Central and South America. This particular tagua is Phytelephas aequatorialis which is found in coastal rainforest along the central coast of Ecuador, South America.
