Producer Story

The Grupo Artesanias T'zaput include 17 Mayan women artisans that speak a Mayan dialect called Kakchiquel, with only a few who can speak Spanish. Most of the women cannot afford to send their children to school without help to pay the school fees and buy simple school supplies so their earnings from their weavings and handcrafts are critical for their families. They live in a very remote area in the western highlands of Guatemala that was devastated during the civil war.

Education And More is a Fair Trade, Christian charitable organization dedicated to helping educate children of the western highlands of Guatemala and to reducing poverty in the communities by helping artisan groups obtain Fair Trade prices for their handcrafts. Our work with Women Artisan groups is based on mutual respect, care and understanding as we follow Fair Trade principals and guidelines.
