Nonprofit CD Bethesda is an outreach unit of Bethesda Hospital, the oldest hospital in Yogyakarta. CD Bethesda's handicraft production unit was established to improve community living conditions and to raise funds for health care programs. The production unit works with groups of artisans who create items from wood, leather, bamboo, ceramic, metal, batik and stone. CD Bethesda promotes use of environmentally sustainable raw materials. It also promotes fair trade principles.
