The items in this basket were made by various producers; each receive a fair wage for their craft. One producer, Iolola Weavers' Group, created the baby booties. They group is made up of Mayan widows and their daughters who came together to earn a living after the violence of the 1980s. They are able to earn consistent income working in a traditional environment—they work at home while caring for their children, livestock and crops. The women participate in health and education projects.
